Tl-rich pyrite and Sb-rich melnikovite in Montlouis pyrite veins (central armorican domain, Janze, Ille-et-Vilaine; France)

چکیده

Lower Ordovician sandstones of the “Grès Armoricain” formation in Montlouis quarry near Janzé (Ille-et-Vilaine, France) display rare Fe-sulfide veins filled with a low-T (<300°C) assemblage pyrite, marcasite, “melnikovite”, trace amounts galena and sphalerite. Pyrite occur as contorted cm-scale columnar pyrite invading larger idiomorphic crystals coating vugs. It is usually overgrown by fibroradiated marcasite outer layer. Concentrically-layered spheroids “melnikovite” separate from marcasite. This mineral sequence consistent crystallization near-neutral, moderately reducing, H 2 S-rich hydrothermal fluids evolving toward acidic conditions. Vug-hosted cm-sized cubes may be partly covered millimeter-thick fine-grained film. Unlike other sulfide ores Central Armorican domain that carry Sb Pb indices, element analyses identify As, Tl, anomalies all distributed between Fe-sulfides, i.e. vein (up to 1.0 wt% As), 5 Sb), 7600 ppm Pb) fibrous overgrowths 2060 Tl). first time Tl anomaly reported massif. A potential reservoir for could altered dolerite body observed quarry.

Selective separation of galena and sphalerite from pyrite-rich lead-zinc ores: A case study of the Kooshk mine, Central Iran

In this research, the selective flotation of galena and sphalerite minerals was evaluated from a pyrite-rich lead-zinc sample. An optimum mixture of selective collectors against pyrite and also organic/inorganic pyrite depressants was obtained in the flotation of galena and sphalerite by an experimental mixture design. The effect of different collectors and pH values were investigated in the ob...

OXIDATIVE DISSOLUTION AT BASIC pH OF A PYRITE-RICH SLUDGE DOPED WITH FLY ASH

A study of sulfur-rich sludge (71.6% pyrite) dissolution at alkaline conditions (pH ca.9) was investigated using non-stirred and stirred flow-through experiments at room temperature (26 ± 1.2oC) and O2 partial pressure of 0.20 atm. The dissolution rate of pyrite-rich sludge was calculated based on the S release (aqueous SO4) at the steady-state. Results show that: (1) in the nonstirred reactor ...

Pyrite dissolution in acidic media

Oxidation of pyrite in aqueous solutions in contact with air (oxygen 20%) was studied at 25°C using short-term batch experiments. Fe and SO4 2 were the only dissolved Fe and S species detected in these solutions. After a short period, R [S]tot/[Fe]tot stabilized from 1.25 at pH 1.5 to 1.6 at pH 3. These R values were found to be consistent with previously published measurements (as calculated f...

Relationships between development of organic−rich shallow shelf facies and variation in isotopic composition of pyrite (Middle Triassic, Spitsbergen)

51 samples from the Middle Triassic black shales (organic carbon−rich silt− stones; up to 4.9% TOC – Total Organic Carbon) from the stratotype section of the Bravaisberget Formation (western Spitsbergen) were analyzed with respect to isotopic composition of pyritic sulphur ( 34S) and TOC. Isotopic composition of syngenetic py− rite−bound sulphur shows wide ( 34S from −26‰ to +8‰ VCDT) and narro...
